Orient X STI 2011 Limited Edition Quartz Chronograph – TT0Z001B and TT0Z002B

Orient sponsored Subaru Tecnica International Inc (STI) in the 2011 Nürburgring 24-hour race that took place in June 2011. This is the third consecutive year in which Orient collaborated with STI in this event. The 2011 Orient X STI commemorative watches will consist of a quartz chrono and a recently announced M-Force model.

Here, I will take a look at the quartz chronograph model, the first Orient X STI model that uses a quartz movement.

This chronograph model comes in a leather strap version (TT0Z002B) as well as a metal bracelet version (TT0Z001B). Each version is limited 2500 pieces.

Here’s a picture of the bracelet version.

Below is a dial shot showing the beautifully textured dial. Both Orient and STI logos are clearly printed on it. Being a commemorative watch for a 24 hour race, the hour markers are lumed as you would expect.

One of the main feature of the watch is that the 1/20 second hand at the 12 o’clock position is inspired by the turbo turbine of the car. The 1/20 second hand is actually a disc designed to look like the structure of the wheel (strap version) and turbo turbine (bracelet version). When the chronograph function is started, you can see the entire disc rotating thus mimicking the movement of the wheel and turbo turbine.

Also, the indicator at the 6 o’clock position is designed to look like the meter in the actual car.

The case of the watch is plated with gunmetal coloured coating as seen on the car.

The caseback shows the unique serial number of the watch in the “XXXX/2500” format, indicating that it is a limited production of 2500 pieces. It also shows it is a 2011 model of the Orient X STI collaboration. I have posted about the 2010 models on this blog and they can be found in the links below:

Here’s a side profile showing the crown and chronograph pushers.

The black leather strap with red stitching reminds user of the comfortable leather seats in the the Subaru WRX and other models.

The Orient X STI 2011 limited edition chronograph comes with a specially designed presentation as shown below.

Diameter: 42mm excluding crown
Thickness: 9mm
Lug Width: 20mm
Water resistance: 50m

  1. Hi Thomas,

Thanks for sharing this bit of news. I happen to be an avid fan of motorsports too!

I believe that, from your photos, in the leather strapped version, the 1/20 sec disc at 12 o’clock mimics the spokes of the alloy wheels while the pvd steel bracelet version mimics the impeller of the turbos.

I like the turbo version better, not just because I’m a motorhead!

Will try to keep a look out for it at my local Orient watch shop that I frequent here in the City of Cats!

    Kool! Thanks for sharing.

    Best regards,

    Ian

    • Hi Ian,

I think you’re right about the 1/20 second hand. The strap version mimics the wheel while the bracelet version mimics the turbo turbine. This escapes me for some reason. Probably because I’m not a fan of motor sports 🙂

Thanks for pointing it out. I have updated my post accordingly.

Orient really gives people reason to buy both models by incorporating that slight difference.

      Best regards,
      Thomas

  2. I’m a big fan of the first 2 iterations Thomas. Normally, a third generation would be a challenge for any manufacturer as comparisons with the 1st and 2nd gen is expected. I like the design/styling cues and even the color combination. But seriously, a quartz? My interest has been dampened.

    Cheers!

    • From the number of pieces produced, I believe this one is targeted not only at watch collectors and Subaru car owners but also at the general watch buyers. Afterall, there is a mass market for quartz watches out there.
