Some Pictures of the Seiko 5 World Time – SRP127K

Among the new 4R36 based Seiko 5’s that were released recently, I personally find the world time model to be the best looking. I handled one recently and took the opportunity to take some pictures of it.

When I first saw this watch on the catalog, I realized it shares some similarities with the SNZH57 or Seiko Fifty-five Fathoms as they call it.

Comparing the dial shots, you can see that both watches use the same set of hands and have lume dots at the inner side of the hour markers.

From the side profile shots, you can see that the case and crown are very similar if not the same. The bezels are probably different and so are the crystals although both of them are slightly domed.

Note that the bezel on the SRP127K rotates smoothly in both directions like those of the Landmasters and Fieldmasters. Also, it has the glossy coating on its surface similar to the 55fathoms.

Here’s the caseback shot as well as some random shots.

Overall, this is a nice and well made watch with hack and handwind functions.

In case you want to know how the world time bezel works, here are two pages taken from the user manual.

This watch is distributed in Singapore by the Seiko distributor, Thong Sia Co.(S) Pte Ltd. The retail price is set at SGD376.70 inclusive of tax.

Generally, the new 4R36 powered Seiko 5’s are priced slightly higher than their 7S36 counterparts. Price did not increase drastically due to the change of movement in the Seiko 5 series.

Shown below is the price tag of the SNZH57K mentioned above. As you can see, the price difference between the two models is only SGD26.80.

Diameter: 41mm excluding crown
Lug width 22mm
Thickness: 14mm
Water resistance: 100m

  1. Well… i wonder if you had seen my totally PVD version of SRP129 when i was in BIG TIME weeks ago, making comparison of the case size with the ORIENT Anniversary Edition?

You are not the first one to comment on the nearly identical casing and bezel between the SRP12x WorldTimer and the SNZH5x “FF”s. When i collected my watch from K2, i made the first initial impression comparison there. Really, both look almost identical that makes me wonder can i get both models, and make the modding by switching the movements between the 2…

    • Hi Ed, I remember seeing someone wearing a PVDed SRP129 at Big Time but didn’t know that was you.

I believe this world time model uses the same case as the FFF but I’m not sure if you can make a mod by putting the best parts of both watches together. If the 4R36 movement and crown/crown stem can be put into the FFF, then you will have a FFF with hacks and handwind. Maybe it will be done once the SRP/4R36 models become widely available.

      Cheers,
      Thomas

  8. Hi Yeoman,

Do you know what is the official Seiko name for their Seiko 5 line up? I cant seem to find the Seiko 5 line up on their official website. I’m interested in looking at the whole line up of the Seiko 5s powered by the 4r movement.

    Thanks!
