This time round, I had the opportunity to handle another Orient Star that was released in the international market and that is the Retrograde model, DE00002B.
The watch has a nice textured and three sub-dials for power reserve, day and date respectively. As a Retrograde movement(which means “return to starting point”), the day pointer automatically returns to Monday when it is done with Sunday.
The hour and minute hands of this watch uses a different finishing on each side. One side uses matte finishing while the other side uses mirror finishing. According to the information on the catalog, this is done to enhance visibility.
Crown operation:
First click position turned clockwise: sets day pointer
First click position turned anti-clockwise: sets date pointer
Second click position: sets time
Pushed in position: hand wind
The side of the case is quite similar to the GMT model. Here are a few side profile shots of the watch.
The watch comes with display caseback. It is powered by the Orient 40A50 movement that is fitted with a unique rotor. The movement beats at 21,600bph and is able to hack and handwind.

It has a nice looking bracelet but what about the feel and overall quality of bracelet. This has been a weak point with orient, otherwise a fine watch.

Orient Star models used to be sold only in the Japanese market and they have better build quality than the regular Orient’s we have in the international market.

Many thanks for the absolutely superb review and pictures. On the basis of your work, I purchased an Orient Star DE00002B and took delivery two days ago. In my view, everything is first rate. The watch looks, feels, and performs like a much more expensive watch. This is my first experience with Orient.
