A new Orient “Mako” was released recently and I had the opportunity to take a look at it. The new model is based on the old one but they have changed certain aspects to made it look more like a dive watch.
This post gives you a summary of the differences between the new and old model and also a quick photo review of the all black Mako, EM65007B.

Shown above is a comparison shot of the new and old Orient Mako. The differences can be summarized as follows:
- bigger font on the bezel
- uses traditional round and trapezium shaped hour markers
- hands are wider
- lume added on the second hand
- stronger lume (sorry no pic)
- center link of the bracelet is different
Most of these changes are geared to making the watch more legible.

Crown and pusher unlocked:

Shown above is the caseback shot. I believe the caseback is different from the old model as it now has a logo on it.
There is a sticker that blocks the logo and I am unable to remove the sticker as this is not my watch. However, I believe it is the same logo that is found on the Orient dolphin. Check out the link below.

Great post and comparison shots!! Thank you!!
I find that the all black ‘Mako’ looks lovely and a good addition!! How is the all black ‘Mako’ looks in real life? .. is it like gun metal black or those PVD black? Sorry for the weird question .. hihihi ..
The plating is similar to those on the Seiko 5′s. Front the front., the watch does not have a glossy look because of the brush finishing. The sides of the watch has polished finishing so the plating appears to be glossy.

I have to admit I like it.
I just sold my blue Mako, maybe its time for a new Mako
And more lume?! Niiiice!
Thanks for the post
Get the black one. It’s cool.
Hi Thomas,
Thank you very much for the great review . . . I as always really enjoyed it!
Thomas, I find some of these models a little confusing. I really like the all black Mako EM65007B . . . but when looking at the Orient website I see EM75001B model series the EM65001B model series and now your posted EM65007B model series (recognizing that each is a particular model within the specific series). Do yo know, are the differences purely cosmetic or is the EM6500 series fundamentally different from the 7500 series?
Thank you!
Kind regards,
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
They are not fundamentally different. Both 7500 and 6500 series share the same movement and are water resistant up to 200m. They have different design and case dimension though.
Best regards,
Thomas
. . . sorry, meant to post the Orient website page I was referring to:

Hi Thomas, What is the function of the extra crown at the two O’clock position?
It’s a pusher for setting the day.
I like the improvements. The new index markers and bezel fonts are nicer. Or is it because it tends to resemble the Sub more? Let’s face it, the Submariner is the epitome of classic/timeless dive watch design. This would look great in various nato/zulu/shark mesh strap combos.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers!
It is possible that they had the Sub in mind when they designed the dial for the new Mako. They clearly had the Sub and PO in mind when they released the new Mako XL with green and orange bezels.
How’s SKX007 vs Ray…..?! I’m headache to pick up one~?!
Both are great. Flip the coin or get both eventually
No sabría por cual decidirme. Estoy entre el negro el azul
Take the black dial variant.
